Boomlift / Manlift Eugene

Used Boom Lift Eugene - The boom lift is one of the most popular kinds of aerial machinery. Boom lifts go by numerous names including cherry pickers, elevating work platforms, aerial platforms, aerial devices and mobile elevating work platforms; created to conduct jobs at higher elevations. Many industries rely on boom lifts every day including retail locations, construction contractors, companies and warehouses. Keeping workers safe as they access conditions in a higher altitude is priceless. The material handling industry offers many boom lift models. Most boom lifts can be successfully run with a single operator. Boom lifts are beloved in the agricultural and orchard industries, used to harvest fruit without requiring a separate ladder, they keep workers much safer since there is not climbing or bucket balancing involved. Ladders need to be secured on solid, even ground in order to be safely accessible, making them hard to rely on in a natural orchard setting. Boom lifts make it much easier to reach high tree tops for collecting fruit. Gaining Access Over Obstacles Boom lifts make working over top of obstacle much easier as many models have been engineered to travel up and over items. Having the capacity to reach an object even when you are unable to maneuver the equipment directly underneath has a variety of applications including window cleaning, telephone pole and line installation and service, fixing overhead cables and numerous other industries. Articulated boom lifts are comprised of many joints that allow the machine to bend under or over obstacles. The articulated boom sections can move independently to grant operators access to many locations. Articulated booms feature a tight turning radius, making them ideal for hallways and narrow storage corridors. Dual-fuel models can work both inside and outside. Diesel versions are best suited outside and electric models are preferred for interior environments. Articulating Boom Lifts Articulated boom lifts are commonly found on construction sites and used in maintenance applications. These machines are often seen servicing overhead wires and power lines. Firefighters may use these machines and some articulated boom lifts have water cannons. Some models are built for extended reach applications and outfitted with telescoping sections. Some articulating boom lift models have an extra jib to enable their platform to reach six feet further in any direction. These boom lifts go by the nickname of “spiders,” since their legs can support the entire machine on steep or difficult terrain. Capable of fitting through doorways, interior articulating boom lifts are more compact and used commonly in storage, retail and warehousing applications. Electric boom lifts are common for interior jobs due to their quieter options and lack of unhealthy carbon monoxide exhaust. Telescopic Boom Lifts Articulating boom lifts and telescopic boom lifts move differently from each other. These models extend upwards and outwards, relying on hydraulics that extend and retract. The worker who is in the platform has the controls to extend the lift and is able to operate without a second worker. Certain larger and taller models feature a jib located close to the top similar to an articulating boom lift model. Some models of boom lifts can achieve a reach of more than 180 feet. In less than a minute, some models can reach their full extended height since these machines are so stable and reliable. There are dual-fuel and diesel models available. Weight range capacities vary from 500 lbs. to 1000 lbs. and speed is adjustable. Boom lifts can fit through tiny spaces and there are 4WD options on the market. In terms of combining height and reach, telescopic boom lifts are your best bet. Jib Boom lifts that have an extension between the platform and the end of the primary boom are called the jib. This enables extra reach and another articulation point or hinge for the platform to move side-to-side or up-and-down. Jibs are an option on many telescoping and articulating boom lifts. Articulating models have a joint situated roughly halfway between the wheels and the platform to enable it to reach over an obstacle and then lower again if required. Genie Articulating Boom Lifts A well known articulating boom lift that can be seen in a variety of applications is the Genie Z-boom. Designed to provide the most versatility in difficult to access spaces, this model has the capacity to lift up, over and out with superior positioning. In 1985, the first Genie Z-30/20 articulating Z-boom was introduced; their up-and-over capacity make them instantly popular and this design continues today. Proper Safety Measures Of course, safety is the highest priority when operating any type of boom lift. All known safety hazards must be known to anyone working within the vicinity. Safely operating the equipment is a top priority for the operator and everyone in the working environment. Proper safety gear and communication need to be completed prior to operating. Ensure there are no flammable or combustible items, open flame or lit cigarettes near the machine, engine fuels or battery gases. It is important to have an accessible, securely mounted and visible fire extinguisher mounted within the operators’ reach. Maintaining a clear area around charging stations and work surfaces is important as tools or clutter could damage the boom lift or cause tire punctures etc. Daily Maintenance Daily maintenance includes a visual inspection and consulting the maintenance manual to ensure the machine is up to date and will operate safely. These industrial machines rely on lifting and supportive mechanisms to stabilize the weight. Straps, fasteners and chains need to be checked they are in good condition. Single use components and fasteners cannot be reused due to their risk of failure. It is vital to discard oils and solvents safely and efficiently to prevent contaminating the environment. Workbenches and workshop or garage areas need to have adequate lighting and ventilation. Maintenance is broad and typically categorized into subsections including Quarterly Maintenance, Annual Maintenance, Commissioning and Programmed Maintenance Intervals. Maintenance Inspection Report Main aspects of the boom lift are categorized and divided to facilitate the inspection process. Some of the maintenance categories for the boom lift include the Engine, Platform, Controls and Function, Turntable, Booms and Drive Chassis. Improper completion can result in unsafe operation, damage to components, poor performance and downtime. A large part of keeping the boom lift secure and operational is the maintenance inspection report that ensures the operator is safe and monitors the machine’s performance and service. Commissioning refers to a list of one-time maintenance procedures to be complete at 50 hours and at 150 hour intervals. Quarterly and annual maintenance is required to be performed throughout the year. Maintenance procedures are based on the operating hours of the boom lift and programmed maintenance may be conducted during pre-delivery machine preparation. Set yourself up for success by consulting your maintenance manual before operating the equipment to ensure battery life, oil changes and fluid levels are ready to go. Boomlift / Manlift PDF
