A stock picker, also known as an order picker is a machinery that is quite like a forklift. It allows the driver to use forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking some objects, and this feature is something the forklift does not offer. Typically, order pickers are powered by electricity. These machines are mostly utilized in a warehouse environment. Usually they are utilized for moving pallets and completing certain jobs in the stocking and shelving department.
The order picker operator sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the equipment forward, backward or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades can be lifted up to the required level which makes it really convenient for the operator. For example, if the required materials, are situated on a shelf that the operator cannot reach, then entire platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is then lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then directed or driven to its next location. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, however, some businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker is also able to put pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts may be utilized to complete these specific tasks at several companies instead.
